Saturday's Class at Mt. Hebron

I had the pleasure of visiting our Combination Class at Mt. Hebron Presbyterian Church this past Saturday. What an amazing group of children! I thoroughly enjoyed watching them learn and perform. Cheryl did a fabulous job teaching them the Drama Kids techniques and the students did a fantastic job performing the tasks given them. HALLOWEEN/FALL HARVEST WEEK!

We will be celebrating Halloween/Fall Harvest next week. All students are encouraged to dress in their favorite Halloween costume or bright fall colors. BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT AT ELKRIDGE LANDING MIDDLE SCHOOL

We were at Back-To-School Night at Elkridge Landing Middle School this evening and it was absolutely AWESOME! We met so many parents and prospective DRAMA KIDS. We were able to "spread the word" about our incredible program and enrolledt several new students. We saw Steven and Austin, two of our Acting Academy students and Gracen, one of our Upper Primary Students. Many thanks to Principal Stokes for allowing us to be a part of your fantastic evening!

First Week of Classes - A Huge Success!

Well, we finished our first week of classes and what a blast! It was so much fun meeting the new students and watching our teachers do what they do best -- teach drama! Thanks to all of you for making Week 1 a huge success!

TRADE SHOW AT ST. JOHN'S PARISH DAY SCHOOL.....

Drama Kids is pleased to announced that we will be conducting classes this year at St. John's Parish Day School in Ellicott City. Today, thanks to Ms. Melissa Parlette, after-school coordinator, we were able to meet and greet the students and showcase Drama Kids at their Vendor Trade Show. DKI Acting Academy for Teens

Our dynamic ACTING ACADEMY is open to all students attending middle school and high school. It attracts a wide range of young people, from those seeking to increase their confidence and speaking ability, to those hoping to pursue a career in theatre and media. The theatre arts program encompasses a five year cycle of curriculum providing young actors with a great diversity of material. As with the classes for 5 – 11 year olds, the developmental side of the program is still important, encouraging students to become confident, articulate communicators. However, the theatre arts side of the program in the ACTING ACADEMY is very comprehensive, covering spontaneous improvisation, voice production, small-group improvisation, mini-scripts, character analysis, open-ended dialogues, theatre games, radio plays, quick-fire dialogues, monologues and structured scenes. In the final term of each year, students begin work on a scripted production which is performed for a public audience. This is always a highlight of the year and reflects the talents and skills of students and their teachers. Last but not least, many lasting friendships are made through attending the ACTING ACADEMY.

These aims are achieved through a highly developed, original, drama program. Each lesson is carefully planned. Chris has a passion for theatre and for working with children -- focusing on their development and advancement in the fields of drama and theatre. Chris will be teaching our classes at Grace Episcopal Church in Elkridge, St. John's Parish Day School in Ellicott City, Beth Israel Congregation in Owings Mills, and Veterans Elementary School in Ellicott City. He is an amazing, dynamic individual and we are thrilled to have him on board with us this year.

Summer Camp--August 3-7 Ends

Yesterday was the last day of summer camps! Like I said before, I really am going to miss the 19 bright and cheerful smiles that I saw each and every day throughout this week! We had so much fun together. I want to congratulate all the students for doing a fabulous job at there performance yesterday. They really stole the show! I look forward to seeing all of there smiles again in our regular Drama Kids classes. Again, congratulations students, and have a wonderful rest of the summer!

SUMMER CAMPS COMING TO AN END.....

Well, our last day of summer camp is tomorrow and I'm going to miss all of the smiling faces and the "dramatic fun" we've had during our 3 weeks of camp. We had so many talented actors and actresses in this year's camps and hope to see everyone in our weekly classes starting in September. I've posted a few pictures so you can see how much fun we've had!

DKI SUMMER CAMP -- AUGUST 3 - AUGUST 7 -- for ages 5 - 13. The camp theme is "ONCE UPON A TIME . . ." The Camp will be held at The Hawthorn Center, 6175 Sunny Spring, Columbia, MD 21044. Full and half day options are available. Full day tuition is $250 (9 am - 5 pm). Half Day tuition is $150 (9 am - 1 pm). Students to bring bag lunch and 2 snacks(if full day and a snack if half day. Camp curriculum includes a unique combination of fun and creative theatre and speech activities, such as mini-plays, silent scenes, dialogue development, partner performances and theatre games. The camp will feature the play "Fancy That" - specifically written for Drama Kids International.
